Descriptions of Hong Kong have ranged from ‘spectacular
and exotic’ to ‘crowded and polluted’
and everything in between. Whichever description fits
your experience, it is hard to deny that this harbor
city is vibrant and diverse. The perfect combination
of East and West, Hong Kong’s energy and constant
activity brings an experience of unique sights and sounds
amongst a backdrop of intoxicating color.
Hong
Kong is densely populated, with a population of approximately
7 million and a total land area of only 1,042 sq km.
As 40% of the land is made up of National Parks and
much of the remaining area is mountainous, it is unsurprising
that approximately 80% of people live on 8% of the land.
The average public housing flat is only 334 square feet
and has 3.2 people per household. Despite this, choices
available in the residential rental market are surprisingly
varied.
